To ensure public health, ÑDz©ÌåÓýapp requires tuberculosis testing of international students from countries with high incidence of tuberculosis.
This policy applies to international students, both short-term and degree-seeking.
Upon admission to ÑDz©ÌåÓýapp, international students (whether degree-seeking or non-degree seeking) will be notified of the Tuberculosis Testing Policy and its applicability in their particular circumstance as listed below.
- New International Students (first time studying in the United States):
1a) New international students from a country with a tuberculosis burden of ≥ 20 cases per 100,000 as determined by World Health Organization data are required to take a tuberculosis blood test upon arrival at ÑDz©ÌåÓýapp.
1b) New international students coming to ÑDz©ÌåÓýapp from countries with a tuberculosis burden of < 20 cases per 100,000 are not required to take a tuberculosis test upon arrival at ÑDz©ÌåÓýapp.
- Transfer International Students who have attended another U.S. institution
2a) International students transferring to ÑDz©ÌåÓýapp from another U.S. institution who come from a country with a tuberculosis burden of ≥20 cases per 100,000 as determined by World Health Organization data and who have previously received a negative tuberculosis test in the United States and who have not subsequently spent more than a year in their home country (or another country with a tuberculosis burden of ≥20 cases per 100,000) must submit the record of the negative tuberculosis test to ÑDz©ÌåÓýapp.
2b) International students transferring to ÑDz©ÌåÓýapp from another U.S. institution who come from a country with a tuberculosis burden of ≥20 cases per 100,000 as determined by World Health Organization data and who have not previously received a negative tuberculosis test in the United States must take a tuberculosis blood test upon arrival at ÑDz©ÌåÓýapp.
2c) International students transferring to ÑDz©ÌåÓýapp from another U.S. institution who come from a country with a tuberculosis burden of <20 cases per 100,000 as determined by World Health Organization data are not required to take a tuberculosis test upon arrival at ÑDz©ÌåÓýapp.
- Continuing International Students (students returning to NWU for subsequent semesters)
Continuing international students are not ordinarily required to take a tuberculosis test in subsequent years when they return to ÑDz©ÌåÓýapp. However, if they spend one year or longer in a country with tuberculosis incidence ≥ 20 cases per 100,000 prior to their return to ÑDz©ÌåÓýapp, they are required to take a tuberculosis blood test upon returning to ÑDz©ÌåÓýapp.
International students from countries with a tuberculosis burden of < 20 per 100,000 are not required to have a tuberculosis test.
