A science evangelist whose passion is helping make science fun will deliver 亚博体育app鈥檚 Fetzer Science Lecture on Wednesday, March 23.
Ainissa Ramirez is the co-author of 鈥淣ewton鈥檚 Football: The Science Behind America鈥檚 Game鈥 and the author of 鈥淪ave Our Science: How to Inspire a New Generation of Scientists.鈥
Her lecture at Nebraska Wesleyan titled, 鈥淏old Innovators You Should Know,鈥 begins at 7 p.m. in Olin B Lecture Hall, located in the Olin Hall of Science, one block east of 50th Street and St. Paul Ave.
Before taking on the call to improve the public鈥檚 understanding of science, Ramirez was an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science at Yale University. Technology Review named her one of the world鈥檚 "100 Top Young Innovators" for her contributions to transforming technology.
Ramirez received her training in materials science and engineering from Brown University and Stanford University. Prior to being on the faculty at Yale, she was a research scientist at Bell Laboratories and Lucent Technologies.
She now focuses her energies on making science fun through impassioned TED Talks, a science podcast called 鈥淪cience Underground鈥 and through serving as a science advisor to the American Film Institute and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
The Amos Fetzer and Alice Fetzer Memorial Lecture was established by Dr. W.R. Fetzer (1917) in memory of his parents. The lectureship is designed to bring to campus distinguished scholars in science, math, computer science, and the environment.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
